Because I did something Crazy…
Because I did something crazy (bought a house sight unseen from a post on Facebook and gave up my career and my 25 years of LA memories and connections to move to the middle of nowhere), because in order not to go crazy within the crazy of this move I started taking pictures with my iPhone (it was a two pronged habit- one it soothed and two it helped me tell you the story of where I landed when I moved to the middle of nowhere) and because people responded to my iPhone photography habit and the thousands of pictures I’ve posted on Facebook, I’ve had three iPhoneography shows with one more on deck and three web based articles about my special brand of crazy, I’ve also sold a bunch of these iPhone photos (printed on metal which pops the color because I am a color HOUND- want one? Let me know…). Crazy how all this good stuff happened because of a crazy decision.
Crazy cool.

Art In The Palm Of Your Hand…A Quote On iPhoneography By Brent Ridge, Fabulous Beekman Boys
Say “Hey” to my newest art collector, Kathryn Rehrig of Syracuse.
Kathryn saw my work at BANK Gallery in Sharon Springs and remembered The Beekman Boys post about my work on their blog- which featured the image Baby Steps- and requested a 10 x 10″ of Baby Steps (sold out in the 8 x 8″ series of 5 at Cherry Branch Gallery).

Kathryn now owns Baby Steps 1 of 5. There are 4 left, pm me for more info before the 10 x 10″s are gone, too.
Baby Steps is an iPhonic image of a Chickadee landing in my hand to feed on a cold winter morning. I had been feeding the Chickadees out of a bird feeder but had forgotten to feed them for a day, this little one started flitting about and tapping me on the shoulder to remind me to fill the feeder. Before I did, I thought I’d see just how hungry he was and held out my hand full of seeds. He landed promptly, grabbed a sunflower seed, again and again. I love these little guys. Alas, it is summer and they can get their feed in other places so no more tapping me on my shoulder as I walk the dogs. Yes, I held the iphone/camera in one hand and the Chickadee in the other.
XO,
V

The Fabulous Beekman Boys Weigh In On iPhoneography
A few thoughts from Brent of Beekman 1802. Happy Birthday, Brent!
“It seems like virtually every employee that finds their way to Beekman 1802 has creative streak that cannot be suppressed. Even the long days and hard work at a fast-growing company cannot deter.
At Beekman 1802, we love to see artists and artisans that interpret the traditional in a modern way.
Vicki Whicker’s work demonstrates that all of us have a profound tool for creating art literally in the palm of our hand.”

Brent and Josh of Beekman 1802 and the Mortgage Lifter idea…

summer 2012
“What if we use these tomatoes to help other small farmers pay off their mortgages?”
Just last year at the Sharon Springs Garden Party, I saw some of these brilliant green starter tomato plants with the funny name and I thought…hmmmm, Mortgage Lifter.
Of course, Brent and Josh, The Fabulous Beekman Boys, saw them and thought, hah! Mortgage Lifter!
After winning The Amazing Race last fall and paying off their own farm mortgage, Brent and Josh got to cooking up a great idea with their crop of Mortgage Lifter tomatoes.
For every jar purchased they will donating 25% of the profits of this sauce to directly help struggling small American farmers. Maybe even pay off a few mortgages.
If you can, buy a jar, taste a bit of heaven and spread the word.
It is what we country folk do.
